THE RED CAT: NYC’S CLASSIC RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE!
If I had to send someone to only one restaurant to get a true “New York” vibe, it would definitely be The Red Cat.
Established in 1999, this Chelsea mainstay is owned by Jimmy Bradley. It has an authentic NY feel and a laid-back attitude, despite being written up everywhere from The New Yorker to House and Garden to Playboy.
Decorated in New England style with red and white painted wood paneling, The Red Cat serves innovative “American-inspired” cuisine that is just as warm and cozy as the setting. While a single eater can sit comfortably at the bar, the restaurant is also a nice environment for couples and larger groups. The menu consists of an array of satisfying dishes that are classically stylish.
Appetizers include a sautéed foie gras, Nantucket scallops and homemade pork sausage with garlic sauce and clams. For an entrée, I recommend the steak, but there is also an assortment of excellent fish dishes like paprika roasted cod. The wine list is extensive and their desert menu features rich concoctions such as goat cheese cake with port wine cherries and anise.
Go hungry, get comfortable and eat like a true local. After you’re finished with dinner, take a stroll around the burgeoning gallery district and check out hot new artists. A little culture and dinner – can’t beat that!
