ROBERT DE NIRO STYLE DINING: AGO NYC

There are plenty of celeb owned restaurants in NYC, but one of my new favorites is Ago by Hollywood heavyweights like Robert De Niro and Ridley Scott, along with their partner Agostino Sciandri.

Located in the Greenwich Hotel, this is actually the Tuscan eatery’s fourth location.  Other locations include West Hollywood, South Beach and Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel. 

With 250 seats, the venue is spacious and rustic.  The light is dim and warm and there is a beautiful stone fireplace.  The most arresting feature is the ceiling, which is made of 90,000 wine-bottle corks.  Yep, that’s 90,000.  Count ‘em.

The signature appetizer is the Carpaccio di Manzo e Regianno, composed of paper-thin slices of carpaccio with baby artichokes and Parmesan cheese.  A favorite and hearty entree is the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, which is a 22 oz. angus beef t-bone steak with rosemary potatoes cooked in a wood burning oven.  

As a drink, I recommend the Peach Martini.  Wine lovers-you will not be disappointed.

Despite the sea of suits and glamorous clientele, the food is very reasonably priced.  Most pasta dishes are in the mid $20s and entrees range from $30-$40.
