7 STEPS TO CREATE A WINNING MOTIVATIONAL PROGRAM IN A TOUGH ECONOMY
The current economic crisis effects all aspects of business and there will be many budget cuts in certain areas. One area that should remain intact is the motivational program. With hard times at hand, keeping your workers inspired and rewarded becomes even more important.
A successful incentive marketing program can improve performance by 25-44%, according to a recent study conducted by the International Society of Performance Improvement.
Below are simple steps on how to create a winning motivational program during this rough patch:
1) Assess Your Goals
If employees are capable of doing better work, but lack motivation, a customized incentive program is the best way to change their behavior,
2) Select Your Program
Programs, like a quota-based incentive program, which reward performance based on meeting or exceeding goals, achieve the most positive results.
3) Develop Work Value of Program
Incentives increase performance by boosting the value people assign to work goals, causing them to make stronger commitments to those goals and achieve them.
4) Establish Training and Communication
A successful motivational program includes training and support and regular communication to make sure your work force is on track to reach their goals.
5) Support Your Program
Employees have to believe that the organization will support their performance goal and provide incentive rewards fairly. This requires careful attention to the way rewards are given, how the rewards are distinguished from compensation, and making sure the rewards are distributed in a timely and fair fashion.
6) Emotionally Engage Your Employees
The biggest performance gains come when people become emotionally engaged with the program. With careful consideration, incentive awards should have a positive impact on the company’s psyche and organizational spirit.
7) Provide Analyses and Feedback
The incentive program must be analyzed against performance objectives and costs, with information recycled in order to adjust future programs.
