The Runway Supermodel of HD Televisions

Flat screen televisions are getting thinner and thinner as we will practically be painting your next generation television right onto the wall. This latest TV from Samsung is only .2″ deep.

That razor-thin frame significantly out-slims the 2010 champ, LG’s 7/8-inch-bezel LE8500/LX9500, and allows Samsung to make statements like “consumers can enjoy the 55-inch screen in the same space of most 52-inch TVs.” It’s so thin the controls have to be mounted behind the TV–although front-facing indicators make them easy enough to use.

In addition to its design chops, the UND7000 improves upon the step-down UND6400 models with a few extras. It offers a 240Hz refresh rate and the company says it has improved 3D performance significantly over 2010 models.

The D7000 has an edge-lit LED back-light, but we saw no mention in Samsung’s press materials whether it shares the same Motion Adaptive Dimming found on the step-down D6400 series. The step-up D8000 offers improved local dimming from an edge-lit configuration, according to Samsung.

The materials do specify that the D7000 series adds a Web browser and built-in Wi-Fi to the D6400′s Smart TV suite of Internet options, which includes new features like “universal” search and a recommendation engine in addition to numerous Samsung Apps. The D7000 lacks the touch-screen remote found on the D8000.

Samsung UND7000 series features:

Edge-lit LED backlight

3D compatible

Supports Bluetooth 3D active glasses

240Hz refresh rate

Samsung Apps with universal search and web browser

Built-in Wi-Fi

If the success of the movie Avatar is any indication, the public’s appetite for 3D is not going away any time soon and 3D TV is already here. Are your ready? Most manufacturers such as Samsung, Mitsubishi and Panasonic have released High Definition LCD, LED or Plasma televisions with 3D capabilities, but there is a lot to consider before jumping into the 3D television market. Here are some things to keep in mind as 3D TV buyers prepare to purchase.

The 3 Do’s and Don’ts pf 3D Television

Do expect excellent picture quality. Just because you are getting first or second generation technology is no reason to think that you need to sacrifice one drop of the HD experience you are used to having. In many cases you actually have an even higher frame rate than most typical HD televisions.

Don’t expect your favorite shows to go 3D any time soon. Networks are definitely excited but most are not ready to take the costly plunge into producing their shows in standard, HD and 3D formats. Some television events, such as the World Cup and some NFL games, have already been broadcast in 3D so you will get some televised 3D programming right away.

Do buy a Blu-Ray player. If you are buying yourself a 3D television you need to add a few hundred dollars to the purchase to watch all of the 3D enabled Blu-Ray movies that have been released.

Don’t forget to buy your glasses. Before you invite the neighbors over to watch a movie in your new home theater, be sure you purchase enough pairs of 3D glasses to go around. The current crop of 3D HDTVs require active shutter glasses though they are actively working on technology to make glasses no longer necessary.

Do get it for gamers. While mainstream television and movies might be slower to adapt to the 3D format, the gaming market is already poised to jump onto the 3D band-wagon. By 2012 we might see 100% of games produced being 3D capable.

Don’t expect a bargain… yet. Just as the first years when TVs had gone flat, you can expect a steep premium to be the first on your block with a 3D television. Just as flat screen prices have dropped over the years, you can expect that, over time, 3D technology will become more and more affordable.

To add 3D televisions to your company’s incentive solution, email: David@Taraci.com or call: 212-243-7733

Somewhere along the road the Plain Jane digital camera met it’s end. It’s no longer enough for digital cameras to take pictures. Our phones do that, and our phones do so many things, we’re much more likely to have a phone with us then a digital camera. These days a camera needs to blow you away with features like: zoom lenses, tough bodies, touch screens, HD Video, GPS, and built in projectors.

After all, my phone can do my taxes and walk my dog.

While it’s not likely Canon is going to come out with a digital SLR that makes long-distance calls, or Nikon coming out with a camera with down-loadable apps, Cameras are not just cameras anymore.

There hasn’t been a doubt since Apple announced their latest “I” product, who would reign supreme in this years gadget game. The iPad is not only really neat (it is) it’s fairly revolutionary. This isn’t a new phone, iPod, or computer. This is a product that innovates and combines many of the features of the three.

This is the most portable and multi-functional tablet computer available on the marketplace and it just happens to have a rapidly growing number of applications. In fact that might be the biggest thing that sets the iPad apart from the Notebook PC (Other then size, style, and specifications) is the fact that apps will be available for download and provide ever-increasing function and fun. At between 16 and 64 GB it can keep up with most notebooks for memory as well. Just wait for generation 2 to come out next year and blow our minds all over again.

It is interesting to think how far cameras have come. Ten years ago digital photography couldn’t touch film’s capability with quality and clarity. Then came the digital SLR cameras which added the high-quality lenses that people were used to in traditional high-end photography to the digital world.

Now Panasonic (teaming up with Olympus) has unveiled the Panasonic Lumix GF1. This is a pocket-sized digital camera with the twist of having interchangeable lenses.

Taking some casual pictures at a birthday party? Pop on the 20-millimeter pancake lens and maximize portability. Or if you are taking a trip out west and wanted to capture the raw beauty of nature you could take along a telephoto lens to get up and close with some flora and fauna.

Now an SLR may still have the GF1 beat in terms of mega-pixels and sensor quality, but this camera’s compact size isn’t it’s only trick, it can more easily change focus and shoot Hi-Def video without limitations that inhibit some SLR models.

If you’re one of those people on the fence between camera enthusiast and camera pro, why not check out the Panasonic Lumix GF1 or one of the other cameras in the Taraci Collection.

Perfect for any incentive program, The Tivoli Audio Music System is a mouthwatering reward for stereo buffs!

This sleek system features a combination CD player and radio with iPod capabilities. Plus, it looks as good as it sounds-good enough to catch GQ’s eye, in fact. The style mavens there have sung its praises in their Best Stuff of the Year feature.
